During pregnancy, a woman functions in the same way as before, usually she cares a little more about health, but still strives for good looks and personal hygiene. Pregnancy is a special time, because you also need to think about the safety of the baby growing in the stomach.
Some hygiene and body care treatments, expectant mother should limit or completely abandon them in order not to harm the child. Which pregnant hair removal method should you choose so as not to harm the baby and yourself?

Safe methods of hair removal in pregnancy are:

Shaving in pregnancy

The most common way to remove unwanted hair is to use an electric shaver for dry skin or a disposable razor and a bit of hair softening foam (possibly reach for soap or bath foam). It is important that the machine is only the property of the woman who uses it, there is nothing to risk even in extreme conditions and use, e.g. a partner's machine! After using the razor, thoroughly wash the depilated area with water and pat in moisturizing lotion.

Depilatory creams for pregnancy

The shelves in the drugstore bend with different types of depilatory creams, the selection is huge. Creams are safe for future mothers, but unfortunately they can sometimes be a problem. The smell of the cream is quite intense, so it's best to check before buying to see if it is too troublesome for us and increases the feeling of nausea.
It would be good if the cream was intended for dry and sensitive skin, because it is much easier for all kinds of irritation in pregnancy. When applying the cream to the skin, remember about the allergic test, just apply a little to the skin and observe that the preparation does not cause irritation. If you have already chosen the right cream, just lubricate it gently at the depilation site, wait a few minutes, suggested by the manufacturer and then gently remove the cosmetic with a spatula. It is necessary to wash the skin thoroughly after the procedure and pat a moisturizing lotion.

Hair removal with tweezers is primarily intended for the removal of small hair, e.g. facial skin. The method is painful, but the pain is minimal because we remove hair one at a time. We should remember that the skin during pregnancy is more sensitive to pain and irritation, so immediately after the procedure using tweezers you should rub a soothing lotion or cream.

This is better to avoid during pregnancy:

It is true that wax and depilation alone are not harmful to health, but they can do more harm than good when pregnant. Wax depilation primarily involves applying warm wax to the skin, which can cause a pregnant woman to permanently dilate blood vessels at the depilation site. In addition, waxing ends with painful removal of the hair and the roots, which causes pain related stress in the future mother. The third contraindication is also pain, because during pregnancy a woman is more sensitive to any stimuli and the feeling of pain may be more intense.

Sugar paste

Its action is similar to that of wax, hair is removed along with the onion, which is associated with stress and pain. It is true that the sugar paste is applied to the body not hot, but slightly warm, so it will not cause vasodilation, but you must carefully consider whether stress and pain are not a sufficient reason to give up this method of hair removal.

The electric or battery powered hair removal device is very popular nowadays. It allows you to remove unwanted hair along with the onions and, above all, you can do it yourself at home. An epilator, regardless of whether it has a massage, cooling or pain relief cap, is still the device that causes pain. Stress associated with pain and the pain itself when removing hair may badly affect the condition of the future mother, so you need to think carefully about whether this method is certainly suitable for pregnancy.

These treatments are not allowed during pregnancy

Laser hair removal in pregnancy

It consists primarily in the penetration of laser light into the hair, causing it to break down. Very invasive method, but also durable. Laser hair removal is prohibited during pregnancy for important reasons. First, it is painful, which causes stress and greater sensitivity to pain in a pregnant woman. Secondly, laser light can cause fetal abnormalities. Thirdly, the skin of a pregnant woman is more sensitive and susceptible to all kinds of permanent discoloration, which often occurs after laser hair removal. Fourthly, laser hair removal can cause skin burns that can be fatal for a pregnant woman and fetus.

Hair removal using ultrasound is very effective, it is performed only in professional beauty salons. First, the beautician epilates the body with wax and then, using a special device that emits ultrasound, introduces enzymes that damage the hair. It is true that only the treatment partially causes pain, but the use of ultrasound during pregnancy can cause irreversible changes. Ultrasound causes cramps, which may result in premature delivery, which is why this method is absolutely not allowed during pregnancy.

Each of us wants to feel good and comfortable in our body. Being pregnant, we put more emphasis on hygiene and that's why we depilate every day. However, it is worth deeply thinking about choosing the right method to not only feel good in your body, but also take care of your own well-being, as well as the safety of our baby.
